Bring The Ruckus.

I had something completely different to blog about today, but it seems that my attention was drawn to a more fortuitous direction. Perusing through the various RSS feeds I subscribe to, I found it intriguing to find two wickedly intelligent and innovative individuals (Brian Solis and Sir Richard Branson) both speaking about the same word: Disruption.

Virgin seems poised to launching something big on October 28th, and Brian Solis was being interviewed by Adobe on insights into innovation, and it was like a convergence across time and space bringing people from various backgrounds to the same notion. Conclusion. Inspiration.

One of the keys that I have found out about innovation, is, the need to reframe our mindsets and outlook to how we view things. We need to reformat our minds to a new worldview. We have all found ourselves in situations in academics, employment, spiritually, where the very nature of asking "Why?" can be disruptive. I like to chew on ideas until I can get them down to a nice bite size piece so as to convey the essence of the thought. And for this brain-track, here's my little nugget:

There is no box.

I'm not trying to borrow any wording from a famous movie, but when we realize, truly realize, that there is no box, we can see things anew.

What box am I referring to? It's the box that holds us into a specific regimented way of doing things. It's the traditions that are done by rote, and not by passion. The box is our collective acceptance of some procedure that has been done time and time again, without question.

What can we do differently to improve ourselves, our work, or education? Have you ever tried to seek out a better way to do things? That's the start of realizing that the box was never there to begin with.
